Simon Cave is an award-winning fashion, portrait and art photographer known for his beautiful, raw and authentic imagery. Born in Switzerland, raised in France, the UK and finally New Zealand, Simon developed a uniquely open minded perspective in his work which emphasizes the importance of identity.
Both his commercial and editorial photography and filmmaking has created a lasting impact with a distinct visual style. His images are characterized by their striking and emotive qualities as well as acutely considered composition and color. Highly collaborative in his approach, he has an ability to challenge conventions, resulting in an original and profound connection with his subject.
For Simon, the camera acts as a passport to explore not only culture and ideas but also to learn more about himself. Whether he is pushing the boundaries of fashion, beauty and diversity in his 2015 book ‘Vicinus’, camping rough in Tallahassee, Florida documenting monster truckers, or lensing campaigns for high-fashion brands in New York, his approach is always the same - create strong, captivating images that tell a story, evoking an emotional response.
One of Cave's most notable projects involved integrating himself into a community of opioid users in the Bronx. He captures the essence of his subjects with a deep sense of empathy and understanding, bringing dignity and humanity to those who are marginalized in society (an ongoing theme throughout his body of work).
Over the past 15 years living in New York, his unique vision and high technical ability has made him a sought-after talent in the industry, working with brands such as Altuzarra, Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Under Armour, Victoria's Secret and Calvin Klein. Simon's editorial work has been featured in Vogue, Vogue China, Vogue Brazil, Vogue Thailand, L’Uomo Vogue, The New York Times, GQ, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar.
Simon now divides his time between Amsterdam, New York, London and Paris.
